Emergency Medical Technician
Emergency Medical Technicians provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. Some paramedics may undertake hospital-based roles, such as private businesses and hospital Emergency departments.
Paramedic
A paramedic is a highly trained healthcare professional that works in emergency medical situations. Paramedics provide advanced levels of care for medical emergencies and trauma. The majority of paramedics work for public and private emergency medical service ambulances, emergency response vehicles, fire departments or in specialized mobile intensive care units. Some paramedics may undertake hospital-based roles, such as hospital Intensive Care Units, Critical Care Units and Emergency departments.
